Radiohead to play 21 shows in Australia and Japan during 2027 residency

Radiohead will play 21 residency shows across Australia and Japan in May and June 2027, the band announced on Monday, September 7. The run opens May 3 at RAC Arena in Perth and closes June 13 at GMO Arena in Saitama, with no other concerts scheduled anywhere else next year, according to Billboard.

The itinerary divides into four shows in Perth, six at Melbourne's Rod Laver Arena, six at Sydney's Afterpay Arena, and five at GMO Arena Saitama near Tokyo. It marks Radiohead's first Australian tour since 2012 and their first headline shows in Japan since October 2008, The Guardian and Rolling Stone reported.

Tickets will be distributed through a registration system rather than a conventional first-come sale. Fans must register on Radiohead's official website, with purchases capped at four tickets per registration, according to NME. Frontier Touring, the Australian co-promoter, said every entry submitted before the deadline will be treated equally.

Registration opened Monday evening and closes Thursday, September 10, at 5 p.m. AEST. Successful registrants will be emailed from Friday and given a chance to buy tickets the following week, The Guardian reported. Each Australian ticket will include a $2 donation to Greenpeace Australia Pacific and the Australian Marine Conservation Society, Billboard said.

The announcement follows the band's fall 2025 European arena tour, their first live dates since 2018. Guitarist Ed O'Brien told Rolling Stone in March that the group planned to play roughly 20 shows a year on a different continent, and he later told NME that the emotional weight of the songs made longer runs unsustainable.

“I don't think we'll do any more than 20 shows. Because you can't do any more – these songs, they're too powerful. The shows last year were really emotional. By the end of it, you were drained.”

The band has not released a studio album since 2016's A Moon Shaped Pool, and O'Brien said this spring they had "not even talked about another record." Demand for the 2027 dates has nonetheless been intense, with The Guardian describing a "frenzied rush" when registration opened.

Speculation about the tour had built for months. Pitchfork reported that a teaser with the words "Tokyo 2027" appeared during Radiohead's set at this year's Summer Sonic festival in Japan, and billboards reading "Radiohead 2027" later went up in Tokyo's Miyashita Park. No Tokyo dates have been confirmed.
