Prime Video sets ‘Carrie’ series for October 7, drops first teaser at Comic-Con

King serves as an executive producer on the series. The series stars Summer H. Howell as Carrie White, a sheltered teenager whose telekinetic abilities begin to surface after her father’s sudden death forces her out of seclusion and into public school for the first time, Cinema Express reported. Samantha Sloyan plays her fiercely protective mother Margaret, a character Flanagan has reimagined as a woman motivated by love rather than tyranny.

The ensemble includes Siena Agudong as Sue Snell, Alison Thornton as Chris Hargensen, Joel Oulette as Tommy Ross, Josie Totah as Tina, Arthur Conti as Billy, Thalia Dudek as Emaline, Amber Midthunder as Miss Desjardin, and Matthew Lillard as Principal Grayle. Flanagan, who serves as showrunner and directed four episodes, described his approach as building something new from the novel’s ingredients rather than retreading ground already covered by Brian De Palma’s 1976 film and subsequent adaptations, according to a Wikipedia summary of production notes. His Carrie is “wide open,” “eager,” and “curious,” walking into teenage life with an innate trust in people, in contrast to De Palma’s more tremulous interpretation.

The teaser, which Deadline said depicts the “cruelty” of modern high school, includes imagery of classmates fainting on a gymnasium floor and glimpses of the prom night that has become synonymous with King’s story. The project continues Flanagan’s long relationship with King’s work, following his adaptations of Gerald’s Game, Doctor Sleep, and The Life of Chuck. Flanagan originally pursued a Dark Tower adaptation after signing a first-look deal with Amazon Studios in 2022, but the Carrie project moved forward first, with a writers’ room assembled in 2024 to expand the short novel into an eight-episode format, according to Wikipedia.

Principal photography took place in Vancouver from June to October 2025. The series is produced by Amazon MGM Studios and marks the fourth screen adaptation of King’s 1974 debut novel.
