Lisa's 'Always Lalisa' documentary gets Oct. 12 global theatrical release

Fans of Lisa will be able to see her first feature documentary on the big screen starting October 12, when Always Lalisa opens in IMAX and cinemas worldwide for a limited engagement. Sony Music Vision announced the release on Wednesday, September 2, confirming that the film will be distributed by Trafalgar Releasing before it streams exclusively on YouTube Premium later in the year.

Tickets for the screenings go on sale September 9 through the film's website. The theatrical run follows the documentary's world premiere in the Gala programme at the 2026 Toronto International Film Festival, which Billboard reported is scheduled for September 11.

Directed by Sue Kim, Always Lalisa chronicles what Sony Music Vision describes as a "transformative year away from BLACKPINK," during which Lisa recorded her debut solo album Alter Ego and made her acting debut in the HBO series The White Lotus. The film's official description states: "Intimate, emotional and revealing, Always Lalisa captures an artist at a crossroads, documenting a year of risk, reinvention and self-discovery as LISA begins to define not only her next chapter, but the woman and artist she wants to become."

The announcement arrives as Lisa prepares to release her next solo project, the EP Press Play, on October 23 through RCA Records under exclusive license from Lloud Co. The EP's lead single, "SaWaDiKa," is set to arrive September 3, according to inmusicblog.com.

Lisa's solo career has expanded rapidly since the release of Alter Ego in February 2025, which debuted at No. 7 on the Billboard 200. She performed at the 2025 Coachella Festival, appeared on the cover of Vanity Fair's summer 2026 issue, became the first K-pop artist to serve on the Met Gala host committee, and is set to headline a four-show Las Vegas residency in November.

The documentary's theatrical release marks a significant step for Sony Music Vision, which announced the project in May 2025 and revealed its title and TIFF premiere in July 2026. Kim, who spent a year traveling with Lisa, said in a statement last year: "Following Lisa on this transformative and thrilling year has been a true honor and a cinematic gift. There have been so many moments on her journey that I think will surprise people and give a glimpse into her world that no one's ever seen before."

Lisa added at the time: "This has been such an incredible year and I'm so lucky to have the opportunity to capture these special moments on film and share the experience with my fans. Working with Sue Kim has been such a joy. We've been all around the world together and I know this is just the beginning of many more exciting things to come."
