Linda Cardellini Returns as Pam Voorhees in Crystal Lake Trailer

Peacock released the full trailer for Crystal Lake on Sunday, September 13, confirming that the Friday the 13th prequel series will premiere on October 15 with all eight episodes available at once. Set in 1971, the series opens with Pam working as a lunch lady at Camp Crystal Lake. In the trailer, she tells a local cop played by William Catlett, "I don't want to heal. I want to find my son."

The promotional description from Peacock states that two strangers arrive at Pam's door digging into her past, setting off a disturbing chain of events that leaves the townspeople wondering who she really is. One scene shows her waking up next to a very large knife, suggesting a dangerous dissociation as she becomes convinced Jason is still alive in the woods. A24 produces the series.

Brad Caleb Kane, known for IT: Welcome to Derry, created the show and serves as writer, showrunner, and executive producer. Kane described Crystal Lake as a "mixtape of genre" with an occasionally camp tone, drawing inspiration from paranoid conspiracy thrillers, ABC Afterschool Special, and martial arts films, according to phantasmag.com. Cardellini, who returns to horror after 2019's The Curse of La Llorona, acknowledged the series' unusual tone in an interview with Entertainment Weekly.

"The tone is odd," she said. "It is many things at once, but it works as this fun ride. There's some scene set in an outdoor carnival, and I feel like it's almost that feel." Along with Cardellini and Catlett, the regular cast includes Devin Kessler, Cameron Scoggins, and Gwendolyn Sundstrom. Callum Vinson recurs as a young Jason Voorhees, with Nick Cordileone, Joy Suprano, Danielle Kotch, and Phoenix Parnevik in recurring roles.

Directors include Michael Lennox, Celine Held and Logan George, and Quyen Tran. The teaser music features an eerie children's camp song, according to phantasmag.com. The show transposes the original 1980 film's events from the 1950s to the 1970s, expanding the backstory of the franchise's original killer.

All eight episodes will be available simultaneously on Peacock on Thursday, October 15.
