Kate O'Flynn credits Jonathan Bailey's 'one step at a time' advice after first Emmy win

Amy Poehler presented the award. Before the ceremony, O'Flynn told E! News' Justin Sylvester that the best advice she has received comes from her close friend, 'Wicked' actor Jonathan Bailey. "One step at a time," she said, quoting Bailey's counsel for handling sudden success.

"Your best friends are there for you, back yourself, and we love you." The win capped a rapid rise for O'Flynn, who plays Patricia Moyer, the awkward but dutiful assistant to Mayor Tom Loftis (Matthew Rhys) on the horror-comedy. In her acceptance speech, she thanked series creator Katie Dippold and executive producer/director Hiro Murai, and called the role "the role of a lifetime," according to The Hollywood Reporter.

She also dedicated the award to fans of the character, saying, "This is for all the Patricia's out there. See you at Sunset Cocktails to celebrate." She grew up in Bury, England, and had worked steadily in British film, TV and theater before landing the role of Patricia. In a recent interview with IndieWire, she said the part was the first script she received after getting a U.S. manager.

"I had just gotten a manager for the first time in the States, and this was the first script that came in my email box," she said. Season two of 'Widow's Bay' is in the works, with the writers' room having started in July, according to Dippold. Rhys told E! News in August that new storylines are being developed but the actors are being kept in the dark.

"They've only been in the writers' room about two weeks, and they call it the blue sky period, where they all throw in their ideas," he said. "And we're like, 'What are the ideas?' And they wouldn't tell us."
