Jack Osbourne Says Ozzy Biopic Is Eyeing "Awesome" Leading Man

Ozzy Osbourne's family has spent the year since his death at 76 shaping how his story will reach the big screen. Jack Osbourne, who is producing the film with his mother Sharon Osbourne and sister Aimée Osbourne, says the script is finished and the team is now meeting with directors. The 40-year-old also confirmed that the producers have a specific actor in mind to play his father, though he declined to name the person.

"I'm not allowed to say, but conversations have been had," Jack said. "If it all works out, it's gonna be awesome." Jack said the family's guiding principle has been to serve Ozzy's fans rather than make an arthouse portrait. "I have this mantra, and I always say it when in meetings with my mom or doing anything in the family business. It's like, 'Give the fans what they want.' That's our people, that's who we're catering for, that's what my dad wrote music for, that's what he toured for, it's why we did the shows we did."

"Because we're doing the Ozzy movie with Sony, and I'm always saying in the meetings, 'We've got to give the fans what they want. We can't make this artsy, esoteric biopic.' No, we're not doing that — for many reasons — but it's not what the fans want," Jack added. He positioned the film closer in tone to Walk the Line than to Bohemian Rhapsody or Michael. "It's more Walk the Line than it is Bohemian Rhapsody or Michael," Jack explained.

The biopic will focus on the relationship between Ozzy and Sharon, rather than attempting a broad career overview. Jack described the project as "really relationship-focused between my mother and father." If casting and directing conversations move as hoped, production could begin within a year.

"In a perfect world we'd like to be shooting spring, summer of next year," Jack said.
