HBO has officially greenlit a revival of the dramedy "Girls." Creator Lena Dunham will return as showrunner and star, reuniting with the core ensemble cast including Allison Williams, Zosia Mamet, Jemima Kirke, and Andrew Rannells. Dunham stated that the characters began speaking to her around her 40th birthday in May.

Judd Apatow will return as an executive producer alongside Dunham. Allison Williams, Jemima Kirke, Zosia Mamet, and Andrew Rannells are credited as co-executive producers on the revival. The announcement does not confirm the return of Adam Driver, who played Hannah's on-and-off boyfriend in the original run.

In her memoir "Famesick," published earlier this year, Dunham detailed incidents involving Driver's temper on set, including allegations of him throwing a chair near her. Driver responded to those claims by stating he has no comment and is saving his side of the story for his own book. The revival represents one of the first major production announcements made by HBO since its parent company Warner Bros. Discovery was acquired by Skydance-owned Paramount.

The limited series will consist of five episodes with production scheduled to commence in early 2027. This storyline marks the evolution of the characters from their twenties into their thirties, addressing the time since the original series concluded. She described the rare opportunity to return to a life-changing project with the gift of hindsight and a new level of gratitude.

Amy Gravitt, executive vice president and head of HBO comedy programming, noted that the world has changed significantly since the last time viewer... Cohen of Good Thing Going also serve as executive producers.
