Harry Styles Debuts 30-Night MSG Residency With New Setlist and Dolly Parton Tribute

Harry Styles launched his historic 30-show residency at Madison Square Garden on Wednesday night with a rearranged setlist that included several first-time live performances. According to Billboard, the set opened with "Dance No More," a track from his February album Kiss All the Time. Disco, Occasionally, replacing "Are You Listening Yet?" as the tour's previous opener. The sold-out crowd roared when Styles acknowledged the venue's other tenants, asking "How about them Knicks, huh?" midway through the opener.

The show marked the tour's first U.S. date after 31 prior concerts across Amsterdam, London, São Paulo and Mexico City, per Billboard. Styles performed in the round on an oval-shaped stage, with Jamie xx opening the night and the two acts flowing directly into each other's sets. NME reported that Styles and his band joined Jamie xx onstage during the producer's final song, "Life," before launching into their own performance.

The setlist included live debuts for "Carolina," "Cinema," "Kiwi," and "Satellite," according to NME, with "The Waiting Game" also receiving its first live performance, per The Hollywood Reporter. Billboard noted that the rearranged order gave Styles' 2017 self-titled debut album its biggest presence of the tour so far, tying 2023's Harry's House with four songs each. One Direction songs were notably absent from the setlist.

Near the end of the show, Styles paused to honor Dolly Parton, who died Tuesday after a battle with cancer. "We've got a couple of songs left for you, but first I wanna say a proper thank you to all the musicians over the years who have inspired me," Styles told the crowd, according to The Hollywood Reporter. "Dolly, we love you. Thank you so much." Parton's 1974 recording of "I Will Always Love You" then played as audience members held up phone flashlights.

The Hollywood Reporter also spotted Styles' fiancée Zoë Kravitz, CBS Mornings host Gayle King, and talk show host Drew Barrymore in the audience, with Barrymore appearing tearful during the Parton tribute. The residency runs through October 31, ending with a "Harryween" show, before Styles heads to Melbourne and Sydney in December.
