Cindy Crawford, Kaia Gerber Share Tributes to Presley Gerber After His Death at 27

Cindy Crawford, Rande Gerber and their daughter Kaia have spoken publicly for the first time since the death of Presley Gerber, describing themselves as "beyond heartbroken" in a joint statement posted to Crawford's Instagram on Sunday. The tribute arrived nearly a month after the 27-year-old died on Sept. 20 at a rehab facility in California.

The family shared a black-and-white photograph of Presley wearing angel wings, which Crawford credited to artist Sebastian Faena. "We feel so blessed to have had Presley in our lives for 27 years," the statement read. "He is a sweet, beautiful soul who loved and is loved, now and forever."

The message, signed "Mom, Dad and Kaia," also acknowledged the public response to Presley's death. "We are grateful for the outpouring of love and support from so many who know and love our family and even strangers who feel our pain," it said. "Til we meet again our sweet boy. We love you forever."

Kaia Gerber posted her own tribute on Sunday, sharing a lengthy letter along with childhood photos and a video of the siblings dancing together. In the letter, she wrote that she had been scared to get her ears pierced as a child, so Presley "went first." She added, "I really f--king wish you hadn't gone first this time."

The 25-year-old described her brother as "my best buddy, my great protector, the hardest I've ever laughed and the one true love of my life." She also wrote that being his sister "has always been, and will forever be, my favorite thing about myself."

Presley Gerber's death is being investigated as a suspected overdose

The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner lists Presley Gerber's case as pending additional investigation, and the Santa Monica Police Department has said there is no indication of foul play, according to the BBC. The Hollywood Reporter previously reported that he died at a rehab facility on Sept. 20.

Before his death, Presley had been open about his struggles with mental health, depression and substance abuse. He frequently posted videos on Instagram for a series he called "Mental Health Mondays," which his family said they would continue to honor.

In the joint statement, the family said they were "so proud of how he showed up in the world, with kindness and vulnerability." They added, "We are so proud of how he showed up in the world, with kindness and vulnerability."

Presley Gerber was the eldest child of Crawford and Rande Gerber and the older brother of Kaia, a model and actress who most recently appeared in Ryan Murphy's The Shards. He began modeling as a teenager, signing with IMG Models at age 15, and worked with brands including Moschino, Dolce & Gabbana and Calvin Klein.
