‘Avatar: Seven Havens’ Sets Oct. 9 Premiere on Paramount+, Unveils Apocalyptic Teaser

Paramount+ has set an Oct. 9 premiere date for “Avatar: Seven Havens,” the first new animated series set in the world of “Avatar: The Last Airbender” in more than a decade, and released an apocalyptic first teaser. The announcement came Thursday during a Comic-Con panel devoted to the feature film “Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender,” which premieres on the streamer and in a handful of theaters this weekend, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The series, from “Avatar” creators Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko, is set well after the events of “The Legend of Korra.” It centers on a young Earthbender who discovers she is the new Avatar, but that “marks her as humanity’s destroyer, not its savior,” according to the show’s logline. “Hunted by both human and spirit enemies, she and her long-lost twin must uncover their mysterious origins and save the Seven Havens before civilization's last strongholds collapse.” The story follows Earthbending twins after a world-shattering disaster, with one twin learning she is the Avatar after Korra, as described by DiscussingFilm on X.

The series received a 26-episode order from Nickelodeon and its Avatar Studios, with the episodes spread across two seasons referred to as “Books 1 & 2” in the “Avatar” style, according to the Avatar Wiki and a Nickelodeon press release. The show will premiere 21 years after the debut of “Avatar: The Last Airbender,” which aired from 2005 to 2008 on Nickelodeon, and 12 years after the end of “The Legend of Korra,” which ran from 2012 to 2014, The Hollywood Reporter noted.

The voice cast includes Saheli Khan, Aishu Devan, Akshay Khanna, Major Curda, Sakina Jaffrey, Darren Barnet, Dianne Doan and Dee Bradley Baker, according to The Hollywood Reporter. DiMartino, Konietzko and Ethan Spaulding serve as executive producers, with Sehaj Sethi as co-executive producer.

The teaser, released alongside the premiere date announcement, depicts a post-apocalyptic world where the Avatar is seen as a threat rather than a savior. The series is described as a direct sequel to “The Legend of Korra,” implying a significant time jump and a drastically changed world, according to Instagram posts from the franchise's official accounts.

“Avatar: Seven Havens” scored a series order in February 2025, and its Oct. 9 premiere date was originally set for the film “Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender,” which was moved up to July 25, 2026, on Paramount+ after a leak, Variety reported. The new series will be a 2D-animated series, with all 26 episodes dropping on the same day on Paramount+.
